Every Frame A Painting is a show by Tony Zhou that dives into technique, history and trivia about movies and movie-making. The videos are short essays on subjects such as how movies can frame the cast to tell a story and how the same cast in a different framing tells another story. They’re very interesting and educational, and should be entertaining even for those that don’t have an interest in film-making.

PsychedSubstance is a harm prevention project. That means that instead of just blurting out “Drugs are bad and dangerous!” they present what the drugs do and what the effects are, both positive and negative, and how to minimize the negative effects. The idea is that since people are going to do stupid things, such as experiment with drugs, anyway we might as well give them the best chance of not putting themselves or anyone else in harms way.

This is achieved by talking about the physical and psychological effects of different substances and comparing them to others, such as LSD vs Alcohol

And you know what: Fucking kudos to these people putting themselves out there, declaring to the world that they’re doing this, and risking all the social and professional consequences of making such statements.

It started out as a school project and has since grown to an established entity in the world of game design, as frontmen Dave and James talk about philosophies, solutions, pitfalls, and processes.

I had a project thrown my way at work and it used AngularJS, a framework I had never used before. I first tried to understand it myself by just looking at it, but I couldn’t get my head around how and why some things were done and used.

So I googled for tutorials and such when I stumbled upon a site that had a simple learn-by-doing tutorial for a lot of stuff, such as HTML, SQL, GIT, Ruby On Rails, and Angular.

By doing a simple course, that let me code directly in my browser with the same type of editor and file structure one would have while doing a real world project, I learned what I needed in a day.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to learn any of the stuff they have available. And more seems to be on the way.

UPDATE: Codecademy now offers Codecademy Pro, which is not free. How this will affect the content that has been free so far is yet to be seen. While it’s understandable that a revenue stream might be necessary, it’s always scary when a free service starts charging for something. Here’s they’re statement about  Codecademy being free:

The guys over at Epic Rap Battles of history ask the question “What if these notable characters (both actual and fictional) where to meet in a duel of musical wits”, and then answers it. Along the way they educate their viewers with facts and trivia about the characters that they feel fit the equation.
